Broken age sequel7/1/2023 ![]() ![]() I recommend these for their artstyle, themes, and osts. These include Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango (sorta hard to play imo), and Full Throttle. These were also the games that inspired Broken Age (Tim Schafer led Broken Age and was a key figure at Lucas Arts). I recommend these for the chill, story-first gameplay. All things considered, huge respect for the developers. Again, the ending had me like, "that's it?" but it wasn't horrendous enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth I just think the game didn't hit its full potential, though I realize the development process might have gotten in the way of the game itself. It kind of subverted some sci-fi tropes, and the way it introduced plot twists was entirely brilliant. The voice acting was great, and bolstered the single greatest asset of this game-clever writing. I have very similar complaints with steam reviews I've read that the second half was much more frustrating to get through than the first half, but it was a great experience overall. Any suggestions?Īlso, what'd you guys think of the game? I didn't know until after finishing that it was a kickstarter project that had to be released in two halves, so my experience playing it straight through was probably different from that of someone who bought while it was new. One such suggestion that would fit the bill is Undertale, but I've already played it. Preferably, it also wouldn't be that long as well (below 10 hours of story). Doesn't have to be a point and click puzzle game, but also hopefully it's not ridiculously difficult to the point where I can't even enjoy the story because I'm too shit to get past a certain point LOL. A charming and not overly complicated artstyle is also super attractive, and a fitting OST for mood setting and immersion helps too. Specifically, Broken Age has me searching for games that are story-driven, where gameplay doesn't necessarily take a backseat but rather is an effective medium for the narrative to be told. It feels like a good book that when you finish, you don't know what to do with yourself anymore.Īnyway, I'm looking for similar games. Mysteries were introduced without being shoehorned, progression was handled at a refined pace, and the plot twists fucking got me so hard, despite having substantial set up (in hindsight at least). The art was distinct and, while kids-movie-esque, didn't get in the way of the games touching upon more mature themes and questions. The ending was a little shortchanged, and some of the puzzles in the second half required reasoning that sorta came out of nowhere, but playing through this game while being invested in the characters and the story was incredible. This game's been on my radar for a while, and i finally copped it during the sale.
